New, eagerly awaited webcast on PBS/IC now available
During BAUS 2009, Galen Limited launched Uracyst® (chondroitin sulfate 2%) a new, effective treatment for PBS/IC. (Nickel et al 2008)
As part of the launch, Galen hosted a Roundtable Discussion meeting called 'Unravelling the Enigma of PBS/IC'. The meeting was attended by some of the UK's leading national and international urology thought-leaders. Also presenting was Dr Curtis Nickel, Canada, a highly regarded international thought-leader on PBS/IC.
The webcast, which is intended for use by healthcare professionals, includes the following presentations:
1. What on earth are we talking about? Does nomenclature matter?
2. Treatment approaches to PBS/IC
3. Intravesical chondroitin sulfate: A new option for PBS/IC
4. The future of PBS/IC Management: A clinical phenotyping approach.
Quotes from the faculty
Mr Malcolm Lucas (Chair)
"This Round Table discussion brought together a small group of urologists who take a special interest in patients suffering from bladder pain syndrome, to discuss current thinking on diagnosis and treatment. It was a refreshing mix of critical evidence appraisal and real world experience, and focused especially on the multifactorial nature of complex pain syndromes and the particular difficulties this presents for clinical care. I would strongly recommend the webcast which has captured the debate in manageable chunks."
Dr Curtis Nickel
"Interstitial cystitis has long been an enigmatic and troubling urologic condition for physicians and their patients. An improved understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis, better diagnostic strategies and a more rational treatment plan employing new therapies has greatly improved management of Interstitial Cystitis, now referred to as Painful Bladder Syndrome and/or Bladder Pain Syndrome. Intravesical chondroitin sulfate is one more potentially efficacious treatment that physicians can add to their therapeutic strategy."
Mr Zaki Almallah
"The meeting discussed very important aspects of IC from national and international experts and was very educational for everybody even those at the highest level. I think the webcast of this round table discussion is going to be a highly valuable tool and reference for urologists, urogynaecologists, general practitioners, nurses and all heath professionals dealing with this difficult to treat condition."
